DOMAENE GOBELSBURG GRÜNER VELTLINER

Awards & Tasting Notes

Vintage 2008

JANE McQUITTY in The TIMES 14th Nov (London)
Hard to think of a wine-producing country whose spicy, steely new-wave young white wines are better suited to festive food than a decent white pepper and lemon peel-charged grüner veltliner like this one. Gobelsburg is the oldest winery in the Danube region, dating back to 1171 and renowned for its restrained, minerally grüners from some of the oldest vineyards in and around Langenlois.

ANTHONY ROSE in THE INDEPENDENT 14th Nov (London)
This Lower Austrian estate is a renowned producer of grüner veltliner, Austria's favourite white wine. Here its reputation is confirmed with a refreshing spritz and the typical pepper and celery characters of the variety. A no-brainer at this price.

VIKTOR SIGL
Smoky, fresh and deeply accentuated, vivid rhubarb and sweet pea notes on the nose; spicy, lightly herbaceous palate, surprisingly full-bodied and open, charmingly intertwined flavours. A perfect ‘Donau Veltliner’ with every sip - crisp and harmonious
